*** IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY ***

If you are a student applying for entry into a specific program offered at Kapiʻolani CC:
The following programs REQUIRE the ACCUPLACER test, not EdReady.

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Dental Assisting (DENT)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Medical Assisting (MEDA)
  • Adult Residential Care Home Operator (ARCH)
  • Nurse Aide
  • Phlebotomy
  • Pharmacy Technician

Kapiʻolani Community College has various ways to check student's skill levels in Math and English to ensure you will be placed into the correct courses.  All of the available options are listed below:

Placement Option 1: Alternative Placement

Students who use Alternative Placement to place directly into a MATH and/or ENG course are exempt from taking the ACCUPLACER and EdReady placement tests.

For Current High School Students or Recent High School Graduates (within the last two years):
Current high school students and recent high school graduates may use SAT, ACT, SmarterBalanced test scores, or High School Grades and GPA for direct placement into a MATH or ENG course.

For Adult Learners:
Adult learners may use HiSET or GED test scores for direct placement into a MATH or ENG course.

Placement Option 2: EdReady

Take the EdReady Math and/or English diagnostic test. This test may be taken from home.  No proctor is necessary. Students who need to take an ESL placement test must take ACCUPLACER (see option #3 below).

Placement Option 3: ACCUPLACER

Take the ACCUPLACER Math, English, or ESL placement test.
This test is taken in-person at the Kapiʻolani Community College Testing Center.
