Body

Description: The workshop is designed to provide job seekers and professionals with practical strategies for building and leveraging a strong professional network to find employment opportunities.

Participants typically learn how to:

  • Identify and leverage existing connections: Understand who is already in their network (friends, family, former classmates, etc.) and how to approach them.
  • Make meaningful new connections: Learn strategies for meeting new people at events, online platforms (like LinkedIn), and through informational interviews.
  • Master the "elevator pitch": Develop a concise and engaging introduction to confidently explain their background, skills, and career interests.
  • Practice proper networking etiquette: Understand how to initiate conversations, ask insightful questions, and actively listen.
  • Follow up and maintain relationships: Learn effective strategies for nurturing contacts over time, sending personalized thank-you messages, and providing value to their network.
  • Avoid common networking mistakes: Understand what not to do, such as asking for a job directly in the initial interaction or speaking negatively about past employers.

Facilitator:  Angela Coloretti McGough (Coordinator / Counselor - Employment Prep Center)
