Click the following Questions to reveal Answers below.

The Ebook Central Reader App is a new, dedicated mobile and desktop app designed for reading downloaded ebooks from the Ebook Central platform. It replaces Adobe Digital Editions as the primary offline reading solution, offering a streamlined, secure, and accessible experience for students and researchers. The app supports EPUB and PDF formats, allows users to manage their loans and devices, and is available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

Note: The new app does not replace the Ebook Central online reader; it’s a companion tool.

The Ebook Central Reader App is designed primarily for offline reading of downloaded books, replacing Adobe Digital Editions. It does not support online reading without a loan. Some features, such as copy allowances, may require an internet connection to sync with DRM settings.

The Ebook Central Reader App is a Clarivate-built, continuously updated reader offering seamless device registration tied to existing Ebook Central credentials, end-to-end DRM encryption, modern OS compatibility, full WCAG-compliant accessibility (including multilingual support), and synced annotations and metadata, whereas Adobe Digital Editions is a third-party Adobe product with manual Adobe ID registration.

No. Chapter downloads continue exactly as they do today. Any chapters you download are still served as PDFs, which you can open in any PDF-compatible reader. The Ebook Central Reader App is only required when you want to download an entire book.

When your library moves from Adobe Digital Editions to our Reader App, all of your current loans are automatically synchronized. Any titles you have on loan will instantly appear and remain accessible in the new app, so you won’t experience any disruption. You can continue reading seamlessly in the Reader App without re-borrowing, and your existing loans will also remain available in ADE until they expire.

You can register up to 6 devices (subject to publisher/title restrictions). Your devices can be added or removed using the Manage Devices page in the Ebook Central website.
