Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff of Kapiʻolani Community College may sign up for access to the New York Times.

Create an Account & Claim an Academic Pass

Do not create an account if you do not consent to the following statement:
"By signing up for and accessing the New York Times service, I understand and accept that the New York Times collects and combines user data from cookies, user activity, registration information, and third-party sources to create audience segments, deliver personalized ads, and share identifiers with third-party partners. These third parties may also use New York Times-collected data in combination with data from their other clients."

  1. Sign in to The New York Times subscription page (opens in a new window). 
  2. Click Create Account.
    • Please note: If you already have a paid NYT subscription, you must contact their customer service before continuing (see Customer Care info below).
  3. You must register with your UH email address.
  4. Create a password that is NOT your UH password.
  5. Indicate whether you are a student or a faculty/staff member.
    • Students will be asked to enter their predicted graduation year.
  6. Click Sign Up.
  7. You have claimed your NY Times Pass!
  8. You have the option to set a calendar reminder for your pass expiration.
  9. You can opt out of marketing emails or newsletter subscriptions by following the steps in the Opt Out section below.

Students will have access until December 31st of their graduating year. Faculty and staff will have 4 years of full access before needing to renew. Come back to this guide to renew.  

If You Have an Existing NYT Account

If you already pay to subscribe to the NYT and wish to use the academic pass through Kapiʻolani CC, you should cancel your existing subscription prior to linking your account.

Opt Out of Marketing Emails / Manage Newsletter Subscriptions

By default, your account will be registered to receive some newsletters and will be opted in to receive updates and special offers. Follow the steps below if you wish to opt out or to manage your newsletter subscriptions. 

  1. Go to Account Settings (opens in a new window).

  2. Remove/Add any un/wanted newsletters.

  3. Click the Opt Out button in the Marketing Communications section.

Troubleshooting

Pass Expiration

  • Students will have access until 12/31 of the graduation year entered when registering.
  • Faculty/staff will have 4 years of full account access before their academic pass expires, and they must re-register.
  • If you are unable to access articles, please visit The New York Times subscription page (opens in a new window) and re-register. 

Monthly Access Limit Reached Message

If you receive a message that you have reached your monthly limit, go to the NYT Group Pass page (opens in a new window) and log in.

  • Access New York Times Audio (opens in a new window) through the web or the New York Times Audio app. The Audio app is only available for iOS devices.
