OK, so why the 3 links and separate dates?

Long story short, the two most popular daily newspapers in the Honolulu area -- The Honolulu Advertiser and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin -- merged in 2010 to become The Honolulu Star-Advertiser. As such, each newspaper has different coverage dates, and even when the dates overlap, the content and stories vary because they were separate newspapers.

Here's an example: say you're looking for Merrie Monarch results for the past 20 years.

When you search the current newspaper, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser [bit.ly/PQstar-adv], you would find Merrie Monarch results for this year and the prior 11 years. Remember, though, you're looking for 20 years' worth of festival results...
So you go to the next newspaper on the list, The Honolulu Advertiser [bit.ly/PQhnladv], and start by locating Merrie Monarch Results for 2009, but then you realize the points breakdown is missing...
Something tells you to check The Honolulu Star-Bulletin [bit.ly/PQstar-bull], and you're in luck! The Honolulu Star-Bulletin's Merrie Monarch Festival results for 2009 do include the points each hālau was awarded in the hula competition.

🌺New Lobby Display on Native Hawaiian Plants & Trees!🌿

We have a new display in the lobby of Lama Library starting this Spring 2025! It explores illustrations by artist and Kapiʻolani CC graduate, Mari Sakamoto, that showcase the Native Hawaiian plants and trees that each building on campus is named after. In the early 1980s, instead of choosing names based on function or people, Kapiʻolani Community College decided to name buildings after native plants with a particular use or significance in Hawaiian culture. All of the plants and trees chosen are either endemic (native only to Hawaiʻi) or indigenous (native in Hawaiʻi and elsewhere). This was done for several reasons: to complement & not compete with the natural beauty of the campus & its Hawaiian identity; to educate faculty, students & visitors about Hawaiian flora; & to protect the remaining Hawaiian forest plants through this education. In addition, the names were generally chosen to reflect in some way the function of the building they represent, & many of the plants are found throughout campus! We have a new Wellness Space in the Lamakū Learning Center where we are holding various student wellness events throughout the Fall 2024 semester!Stop by and join us for guided breathing exercises, short yoga stretches, mindfulness tips, games and more! Weekly Wellness | Lama 207ATuesdays & Thursdays, 9-12On (most) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am - 12 pm, we are hosting drop-in weekly wellness sessions for students guided by a peer coach. Meditation Room - Lama 207DLocated mauka of the study hub in the Lamakū Learning Center, the meditation room is a quiet place where you can take a break from your day to breathe, practice mindfulness, do yoga, color or just sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It is open any time Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm. Just walk right in!
