Where to Find Research Articles

PRIMARY SOURCES

Primary empirical research vs review articles video

Google Scholar (video): Not all articles are free; look for PDF links on the right side.

  • Go to Settings, click on Library Links,
  • Add "Kapiolani Community College Library" to link to additional PDFs.
  • Add "University of Hawaii at Manoa" if you are taking a class at Manoa or contact joy.oehlers@hawaii.edu for assistance with requesting a UH Manoa article.

PubMedCentral (video)

  • Fulltext access to 8+ million articles
  • Automatic APA citation

ScienceDirect: Use the library link, not sciencedirect.com, to access our subscribed journals.

  • Check the Subscribe Journal box to get articles with full-text
  • Copy the article title into Google Scholar to generate the APA citation

Other library links: EBSCO (select peer-review only) | Science Magazine | JSTOR

GENERAL SOURCES

Advanced Google Search (video)

  • Check that it is a scientific report or study providing scientific evidence and includes references. Avoid personal or lobbyists' opinions,
  • Try adding these to limit your results to
    • site:.hawaii.edu
    • site:.gov
    • filetype:pdf

Sample search string:

Adding more search words = more focused results.
Try alternative words if the results aren't good.
