Language placement testing services are conducted in-person at the Testing Center, located in Lama Library, Room 101.
What languages are available:
Placement testing for seven (7) languages are available: Chinese, Filipino, French, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Taking the language placement test determines your eligibility to either start at a level beyond the introductory 101 level or determine native fluency in a particular language.
Special instructions for speakers of American Sign Language:
Students with knowledge of ASL who would like to arrange for placement testing should contact Crissy Holmes by e-mail at holmesc@hawaii.edu.
Please follow the procedures below to take your placement test.
1.Schedule your language placement test
Appointments must be scheduled at least two (2) calendar days (or more) prior to your desired test date.
Availability is limited and seats fill up quickly.
Contact the Testing Center at 808.734.9144 for more information about future test availability.
After you schedule your test, you will receive an e-mail confirming the date and time of your testing appointment.
2.On your scheduled test day
If you or someone you are in close contact with is sick, please don't come to campus and stay home.
Arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.
Bring the following:
A photo ID (Drivers license / permit, State ID, Military ID, School ID, Permanent Resident Card, etc).
